Kaia Gerber and Homer Gere are providing fashion fans with a nostalgic view of one of Vogue’s most memorable covers.

The two up-and-coming actors appear together in the September 2026 edition of Vogue, about 35 years after their well-known parents, the supermodel Cindy Crawford and actor Richard Gere, appeared together on the magazine’s cover.

The fact that the new cover has drawn attention is not merely due to the actors’ family ties, but also because Gerber and Gere have roles as love interests in FX’s forthcoming series The Shards, which is an adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis’ coming-of-age novel by Ryan Murphy.

The parents’ relationship has for a long time been a part of Hollywood and fashion history. Crawford and Richard Gere met in 1988 and got married in 1991 in a small ceremony. A few days later the couple appeared together on a Vogue cover, the photograph of which was taken by the renowned photographer Herb Ritts.

Crawford, who is now 60, and Gere, who is 76, announced that they were separating in December 1994; more than three decades on, their children have ended up working together on screen and have now also got a Vogue cover together.

Gerber and Homer Gere knew that when they started working on The Shards their parents’ previous relationship would certainly come up and, rather than avoid the issue, Gerber chose to deal with it right away.

Obviously we were going to deal with it, said Gerber at the July 27 premiere of The Shards in New York. She stated that she had raised the point at the beginning so that they could get past the awkwardness.

Gerber pointed out that what was not the most important aspect of their relationship was the fact that their parents had a certain history; instead, they hugged and found that they had a lot in common.

Homer Gere also gave a warm account of his co-star, describing Gerber as friendly, intelligent and quirky, and said that she was just a good person.

Cindy Crawford has also reacted with pride to the Vogue cover. Once the cover had been revealed on August 11, she posted the picture on her Instagram Story and said, “so proud of my girl @kaiagerber.”

For Gerber and Gere the occasion is significant not only as a reproduction of a well-known family photograph, since both of them are now building up their own careers and are entering the public eye which has accompanied their parents for decades.

The fact that The Shards has brought them together on screen and that their Vogue cover reflects their parents’ famous 1990s look means that they are now writing a new chapter in the Hollywood and fashion link which started long before they were born.
